![]() ![]() Two years after its release, Major Melon will be getting a Mountain Dew Energy variant in March 2023 for a limited time. Mountain Dew Energy (Major Melon) Main article: Mountain Dew Energy (Major Melon) Similar to other Zero Sugar flavors, Major Melon Zero Sugar's style of design is much like regular Major Melon, except that it uses a black background instead of a bright pink one (much like the other Zero Sugar flavors). The flavor, meant to be as close to regular Major Melon as possible, without any sugar. Major Melon Zero Sugar, which was released the same time as its regular counterpart, has been sold in 20-ounce bottles and 12-packs. The advert features WWE Superstar and actor John Cena drinking Major Melon and discussing the product, bringing the larger-than-life flavor to fans nationwide. It is also available in fountain form and as a Freeze at various convenient stores such as Kum & Go and Circle K.Ī few weeks later, it was promoted in a commercial during Super Bowl LV by counting the correct number of bottles appearing on the spot. It was officially released to stores nationwide in the United States on January 4th, 2021 as a permanent flavor, and was available in various sizes such as 20-ounce bottles, 16 ounces/16.9-ounce multipack bottles, 1-liter bottles, 2-liter bottles, and 12-packs. This video reaffirmed much of the previously-leaked information for 2021 for all of the flavors previously mentioned. Two months after the leaks from August 2020, on October 8th, 2020, a leaked internal reel video surfaced on the same Dew Drinker Discord server, showing upcoming plans for the Mountain Dew brand for 2021. All of these leaks are as follows: Major Melon, alongside its Zero Sugar variant, Rise Energy, Baja Blast alongside two flavors, Baja Flash and Baja Punch, DEW-S-A, Riddler's Brew, Gingerbread Snap'd, and a re-release of Pepsi Blue. On August 4th, 2020, on the Dew Drinker Discord, information was leaked by an anonymous individual showing upcoming plans for 2021 with many flavors and new brands alike. ![]() Its tagline is " DEW Charged with Watermelon Flavor with Other Natural Flavors." To be fair, I was already kind of sick of it, but looking at all the luminescent pink fluid left, I can’t help but feel a touch of dismay.Major Melon is a Watermelon flavor of Mountain Dew and has a bright red-pink look, having a comparable tasting flavor and color to that of Kickstart Hydrating Boost (Energizing Watermelon) and Flavor 648. 12 ounces I could hack all right, but I’ve still got a third of the bottle to go and I’m getting kind of sick of this stuff. It doesn’t help that this is a 20-ounce bottle. I’m not much for artificial watermelon flavor anyway (Jones Crushed Melon was solid, but that was more cantaloupe/honeydew than watermelon), and the sharpness of the fizz is really off-putting here. I never would’ve thought of adding melon to Dew, and there’s a reason for that. So it’s got that heaviness, but it’s not the same kind of sweetness – it’s aspartame instead of HFCS – and then you add in the fake melon flavor on top of that…it’s a lot for my palate to cope with.Īll that said…it’s not very good. It also seems to be fizzier than Dew normally is, which sits uncomfortably with the heavy, syrupy texture that we’re all familiar with.Īnd then you’ve got the fact that this is Zero Sugar Dew, which I don’t think I’ve ever had. Which is fitting, because Mountain Dew itself doesn’t exactly taste like lemon-lime, but it doesn’t not taste like it. I guess that’s good.Īnd it tastes…kind of melon-y. So let’s Do the Dew, Major Melon style! I can’t say adding melon to the vague citrus flavor of the original seemed like a gimme, but what have I got to lose?Ĭap came off with a more satisfying “pop” than usual. ![]() (I’ve got another soda on deck that is full-sugar, but I’ll review that in a few days.) In any case, when I found a bottle of Major Melon Dew in the Zero Sugar variant – Dew has a ridiculous amount of sugar even for a mainstream soda – I decided to add it to my lineup. I’m not sure if there’s been a great deal of hype around Mountain Dew’s (I’m sorry, “Mtn Dew’s”) newest variant, but then again, I haven’t had my finger on the pulse of soda culture as tightly as I would like of late. ![]()
